News and Articles

Rust and Typescript are rising stars in programming languages 2024 survey, the State of CSS 2024 survey is open and here is what's new in ECMAScript.

In security news, a Microsoft update bricks Linux dual-boot systems, they patched a critical Copilot Studio vulnerability and there's a code execution vulnerability in the Wordpress WPML Plugin. Slack has also a indirect prompt injection which can leak data from private channels.

In the AI space, there's a great video showing what an 8-year-old can build in 45 minutes with the assistance of AI, you can now use Midjourney outside of Discord, Anthropic publishes the System Prompts that Claude runs on, the CEO of Amazon explains that the company saved a massive amount of time thanks to internal AI tool and their Cloud CEO claimed at an internal fireside chat that most developers could stop coding soon as AI takes over. Brave new world ideas, but there is also the issue that poisoned LLMs suggest vulnerable code and developers are already getting tired of fixing customers’ AI generated code. Are we obsolete soon? You can check and feel better by trying the are you smarter than a language model quiz.  And, it turns out that a prominent accessibility advocate never existed.

Code and Tools

Does your React app crash lately? It might be Google Translate interfering. When displaying source code with syntax highlighting you either generate images or use a client or server side script. But now a new player has entered the game, a font with built-in syntax highlighting! Should help with performance and scripts. Talking of script safety, Kevin Cox claims that CORS is stupid and doesn't solve the issues it should. Let's stay on the topic of JavaScript: the history and future of regular expressions explains a thing I love but many just see as hieroglyphs and another interesting tool for this is a template tag extending regular expressions. JS dates are about to be fixed, and good thing, too. You can read up on common causes of memory leaks and patterns for memory efficient DOM manipulation. Other puzzling things might be JavaScript rounding errors and why JavaScript variables don't always update. And, to close, here is all about JavaScript loops.
