Job description

The Advanced Systems Engineer position requires in-depth knowledge and expertise in broadcast and live production systems (traditional, software defined, and cloud based) along with an advanced understanding of the advanced IT systems required to support both linear and non-linear productions.

This position will be expected to take the lead (including supervisory functions and project management) on complex projects and act as subject matter expert and resource for the tier 1 and tier 2 support teams as required. This position is expected to be able to work with teams in multiple facilities and even other regions where WBD has a presence.

Depending on the specific knowledge area we need, the successful applicant will be extremely proficient in one or more of the following areas and seen by their peers as a subject matter expert:

  • Design and maintain end-to-end signal flow architectures for live production facilities.

  • Manage video and audio routing infrastructures including SDI, SMPTE ST 2110, JPEG XS, NDI, SRT, and related IP transport technologies.

  • Configure and support broadcast control systems, orchestration platforms, router control panels, and software-defined networking solutions.

  • Develop and maintain monitoring strategies for signal integrity, path redundancy, quality of service, and fault detection.

  • Troubleshoot complex routing, timing, synchronization, and transmission issues affecting live production operations.

  • Create and maintain detailed signal flow documentation, routing maps, and operational standards.

  • Lead infrastructure deployments, upgrades, proof-of-concept testing, and technology evaluations.

  • Collaborate with Network Engineering, Production Engineering, Operations, and vendors to implement scalable and resilient workflows.

  • Provide Tier 3 escalation support during high-profile live events and critical broadcasts.

Your Role Accountabilities…

Architectural Design and Execution

Once a project is approved, you will oversee the integration of the new system and in most cases be responsible for the configuration of all components managing any relationships with third-party or internal partners/vendors. You will be responsible for providing system overviews and training therefore excellent communication skills are a must.

This position is expected to lead the support of the broadcast enterprise at a very high level. When needed, lead major incident calls (could be expected to act as the Incident Manager if appropriate) and be a source of knowledge for Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams as needed. They are expected to create training opportunities either through mentorship, training, or creating knowledgebase articles.

Requirements

  • Minimum of ten years of experience in live production projects and/or maintenance; or eight to ten years of experience in advanced IT support/systems design that support live production.
  • Demonstrated understanding of fiber optic technology and broadcast satellite systems.
  • Ideally seeking an individual with experience of virtualized compute/storage infrastructure and systems, broadcast automation, play-to-air broadcast systems (including automation and play-out servers) and live studio & master control environments (including an advanced understanding of Graphics for production).
  • 2+ year Associate’s Degree with equivalent experience or a Bachelors’ Degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related discipline would be preferred.
  • Effective communicator with Senior Executives, Clients, and Vendors.
