Job description

Newport City Council’s Housing Supply and Regulation Service is looking for a detail-oriented and customer-centric Temporary Accommodation & Housing Support Assistant. This role is integral to the administration of housing services, providing support for housing benefits, financial transactions, and managing temporary accommodations. The successful candidate will assist homeless households, ensuring efficient service delivery and financial oversight. The position requires direct interaction with clients through various communication channels, including phone, in-person, and community settings.

  • Oversee and manage temporary accommodation arrangements for homeless individuals.
  • Facilitate the procurement and reservation of emergency housing.
  • Handle administrative tasks related to client placement in temporary accommodations.
  • Offer support to residents in temporary housing.
  • Serve as a contact point for maintenance issues and accommodation inquiries.
  • Process administrative tasks and financial transactions related to Housing Benefits.
  • Assist in managing rent accounts, monitoring income, and handling invoicing.
  • Prepare purchase orders, payment requests, invoices, credits, and debits.
  • Maintain precise records of customers, accommodations, and financial data.
  • Generate management information, statistical data, and performance reports.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to applicants, landlords, housing providers, and stakeholders.
  • Attend meetings and document minutes as needed.
  • Provide administrative support to broader homelessness and housing services.

Requirements

  • At least 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English.
  • Experience in customer service across various communication platforms.
  • Proficiency in using databases and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Experience engaging with the public and diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of data protection, confidentiality, and information governance.
  • Strong skills in administration, organization, and prioritization.
  • Competency in numeracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Capability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • Qualification related to housing.
  • Experience in Housing Services, Homelessness Services, Temporary Accommodation, or Social Housing.
  • Understanding of housing management or frontline housing services.
  • Experience collaborating with Registered Social Landlords (RSLs).
  • Familiarity with Housing Benefit administration and income collection processes.
