Embedded SW Engineering Lead–Android Open Source (m/f/d) at CARIAD

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master’s degree in computer science, robotics, software engineering, physics, numerical modeling or another related field
  • Ideally, eight years of experience as an Android platform developer, with strong programming skills in bash/C/C++/Java
  • Design and concisely implementing basic Android services with associated tests in bash, C/C++ or Java/Kotlin
  • Proficient knowledge of Android init system and HAL as well as working knowledge of Soong Android build system
  • Expertise and proven track record of making significant hands-on contributions Linux platform/kernel development a definite plus
  • Outstanding documentation, profiling and strong debugging skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to dive right in, develop effective processes, and work to ensure our vehicles remain connected
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory, German is beneficial

Scope of Work

YOUR TEAM

You will spearhead and drive key areas of the future Software-Defined-Vehicle (SDV) software stack together with fellow engineers and their respective teams, These efforts will span various domains of the vehicle, with a primary focus on Infotainment, Body, Power Distribution, and Connectivity solutions. We are seeking individuals who thrive on pushing boundaries, challenging conventions, and championing innovative ideas. As a vital member of CARIAD's senior technical team, you will interface with multiple stakeholders within VW Group's technical community.

In the role of Embedded Software Engineering Lead – Android Open Source Project
(AOSP) Platform - SDV Hub (m/f/d), you will play a pivotal role in supporting a global engineering operations team tasked with maintaining vehicle software updates and ensuring the health of our fleet, both today and in the future. Specifically, you will take the lead in proactively monitoring, triaging, and providing support for vehicle software updates and associated fleet health management data. Situated at the heart of vehicle software engineering, this role offers cross-functional visibility and represents a groundbreaking opportunity to revolutionize the connected car segment. You will be instrumental in developing streamlined and automated processes for managing vehicle software updates, laying the foundation for a future where connectivity and efficiency seamlessly intersect.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Responsible for architecting, designing, extending, and implementing CARIAD’s next generation Android Infotainment platforms (e.g. navigation, multi-media and communication)
  • Define and implement core Android frameworks such as customization of user interfaces (UI) for in-vehicle displays enabling features that scale across different brands needs and configurations
  • Integrate third-party SDKs and APIs for additional functionality such as voice recognition or telematics services
  • Drive discussions and provide technical guidance related to AAOS (Android Automotive OS) capabilities and roadmaps
  • Customize and contribute to overall stability, responsiveness and functionality of AOSP platform
  • Develop and maintain OTA (Over-the-Air) update mechanisms for AOSP-based automotive systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, designers, and QA testers to deliver high-quality embedded software solutions
